Pardew implores Newcastle to produce best possible finish

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew wants his team to continue fighting for points in the Premier League season run-in.

The eighth-placed Magpies are safe form relegation as they embark on the final eight matches of the 2013/14 campaign but are also too far off the pace for a Europa League finish.

Nevertheless, Pardew wants his players to pick up as many points as possible in the remaining six weeks rather than switching off which they have not done since making it to the coveted 40-points mark late last month.

"I had a letter from one of our fans this week saying they have been proud of the team since we got 40 points because it's very difficult," said Pardew ahead of Tuesday night's home meeting with Everton.

"You look at the history of the Premier League - teams hit 40 points and switch off. Well, we have not done that.

"We will just keep fighting away and trying to achieve the best possible results we can for our fans. We have got the best fans in the country and we want to do the best for them."
