Pardew eyes Europa League quarter final berth for Newcastle

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is confident ahead of their Europa League quarter-finals clash with Anzhi Makhachkala at St James' Park. The Magpies drew the first leg 0-0 in Russia last week, but Pardew believes that result has given the hosts a good platform to progress to the quarter-finals.

"It's a great position for us. It's quite simple - we need to win. If you're going to go through in a tie you need to win, you don't want to go through on away goals; you want to win a game," he said.

"We squeezed through last time and we want to win this one. The agenda is in front of us, the emphasis is on us, we'll have 42,000 Geordies in there going mad.

"They have had experience playing against Premier League opposition this year at Liverpool. I think they lost 1-0. I think this game will be tougher for them.

"It's a tough agenda for us, make no mistake, but I still have a strong feeling that we can win. And our fans will on the back of three home wins. We're going into it with good confidence. "
