Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is delighted fans have now seen the quality of goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

The former Charlton Athletic No1 has impressed in Europe against Maritimo and in the Capital One Cup this week at Manchester United.

Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "I'm glad of that - I think he's come in for a bit of criticism over one game at Nottingham Forest.

"That was actually unfair in my opinion.

"He's been brilliant in training, and showed that in these games. I'm absolutely delighted for him."
