Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has been assured his job is safe.
A club source told the Evening Chronicle that nobody inside St James' Park expected Pardew to be sacked after his series of clear-the-air meetings with owner Mike Ashley.
Rumours about a change of manager have dominated social media over the last 48 hours and the club's decision not to make an official statement on the matter only fuelled those flames.
Pardew will be allowed to continue at United at least for the foreseeable future, despite the team tumbling from fifth to 16th position within the space of a year.
