Pardew admits Debuchy needed convincing after Newcastle slide

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is happy to have completed their deal for Lille fullback Mathieu Debuchy.

Debuchy's £5.5million move went through yesterday and manager Pardew admitted his conversations with the 27-year-old this week had been trickier than he might have expected when he first moved for him after Euro 2012.

Pardew said: "It was difficult to explain the situation. In the summer when he was coming he probably thought we were going to be a top-eight side. On Wednesday it was a little bit of a different conversation but he understands we've had unusual conditions and if we can get our best team out there, we've got a great side. We just need to get that side out there quickly."
