Palombo delighted with new Sampdoria contract

Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo has signed a new deal through to 2013.

"It's what I wanted," said the Italian international. "I am happy at Samp, am tied to the club and the city, as I came here when I was a youngster and now I am a man, always with the same Blucerchiati jersey.

"With great pleasure I announce I've reached an agreement with the club. Our needs and requests matched and so it was easy to find a deal."

The team was still in Serie B when Palombo first arrived and this season played in the UEFA Cup knockouts as well as reaching the Coppa Italia Final.

"I thank the owners for always showing faith in me, including in this renewal. I made a sacrifice on one side, they did on the other. I won't forget that and am grateful to Sampdoria.

"Next season we certainly aim to do better and at the end of the season I hope to receive a call for the World Cup."
