Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed how close he came to sacking Torino coach Walter Novellino when they were together at Venezia.

Novellino is the only coach Zamparini has not dismissed and he recalled: "That's true, but I was ready to fire him in our first season in Serie A.

"We were last or second-last on the table and were playing Empoli - who had the same points as us - and were losing 2-0 in Venice at halftime. I thought I'd seen enough, but then we came back and won 3-2! So, Novellino's job was saved."
