Palermo president Zamparini reveals Man City want Cavani

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed Manchester City are chasing star striker Edinson Cavani.

Zamparini has rebuffed all previous interest in Cavani, who has scored 32 goals in 107 games for Palermo since arriving from Uruguay in 2007, but knows he will be powerless if City trigger his escape clause.

"There has been no offer tabled from Napoli," said Zamparini. "However, Manchester City and a few Russian sides have come forward."

Sporting director Walter Sabatini claims Palermo's chances of hanging on to Cavani are no better than 50-50.

"On Cavani, there is an interest from some clubs but there are no concrete offers," he said.

"In this situation, we are only viewers because his value is given by the buy-out clause in the contract - €25million.

"The possibility of Cavani staying at Palermo doesn't go beyond 50 per cent."
