Palermo president Mauricio Zamparini admits it was difficult to sack Rino Gattuso.
The AC Milan legend was shown the door after just six games in charge of the Serie B club.
"I was the only loser with Rino," Zamparini told Tuttosport. "It was a gamble, one I was convinced I would win with him.
"I have sacked a lot of Coaches, but I had never suffered as I did this time. Rino is a great person, I sent him a consolation message and I'll meet with him soon to re-affirm my respect for him.
"I made the mistake, Gattuso won me over with his determination and ideas, unfortunately the results punished us.
"I already made up my mind to change him after Week 2. We have to win the championship here, there is no time to grow or experiment.
"Gattuso lacked experience during the difficult moments, but he will develop into a great Coach."
