Palermo defender Moris Carrozzieri hopes fellow players learn from his mistake after he failed a drugs test.
Carrozzieri tested positive for cocaine after attending a party and will learn the length of his suspension - which could be two years - at the tribunal on July 9.
"These are mistakes that you pay for and a player at this level simply cannot afford," confessed Carrozzieri.
He had been impressive with the Rosanero and was linked with numerous top sides as well as a call-up for the Italy squad.
"If I had some chance of playing in a big club, then I burned that bridge with my mistake. I've ruined my career."
The defender hopes at least his fate can act as a warning to others in the fickle world of football.
"There are few real friends in this business. I joke around with everyone, but at the end of the day I know who is really on my side."
