Palermo boss Rossi ready for Champions League playoff

Palermo coach Delio Rossi knows they now face a Champions League showdown against Sampdoria on Sunday.

Edinson Cavani and Fabrizio Miccoli struck the goals for Palermo in their 2-1 win at Siena.

Only two points separate the teams going into the Stadio Barbera, as they tussle for a top four finish.

"Just four months ago we were in 14th place and now we are challenging for something truly important," said Rossi.

"There was some tension within the squad, as we are a young side and unaccustomed to fighting for something as prestigious as a Champions League position.

"However, after 20 minutes that tension dissipated and I saw a good Palermo performance. We must give credit to Siena, who fought so hard to the end.

"This was a semi-final, on Sunday we have the Final against Sampdoria. The fact we are already up there challenging with two rounds to go shows how strong we are this season.

"The city is dreaming and to keep them dreaming we need to stay on our toes for at least another week."
