Wilson Palacios will stay with Birmingham City despite his younger brother being kidnapped back home in Honduras.
Midfielder Palacios, 23, on loan from Honduran club Olimpia with a view to a permanent deal, has made six appearances for Brum following a trial at Arsenal in the summer.
But his hopes of making it in the Premier League have been thrown into turmoil by news 15-year-old Edwin has been snatched by criminals seeking cash.
A Birmingham statement said: "The matter is being dealt with capably by police and so Wilson is staying in the UK."
