Palacios: I owe Spurs success to Arsenal rejection

Wilson Palacios admits he wouldn't be at Tottenham without the help of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal's manager turned down the chance to sign the battering-ram central midfielder in 2007.

He might have been the perfect foil for Cesc Fabregas but Wenger snubbed him after a two-week trial and told Birmingham to snap him up instead.

Since then Palacios has moved to White Hart Lane for £12m from Wigan and helped drive Tottenham's push for a place in the top four.

Palacios said: "I'm thankful to Wenger for recommending me to Steve Bruce. From that moment on my life has changed greatly."

Another Arsenal great also inspired him to the top. He added: "My hero was Patrick Vieira. He was, and still is, a great player."
