Palace youngster Zaha wins top Football League gong

Crystal Palace teenage midfielder Wilfried Zaha received the npower Football League Young Player of the Year Award.

Crystal Palace teenage midfielder Wilfried Zaha received the npower Football League Young Player of the Year Award.

The 19-year-old scooped the prize at the Football League Awards 2012 ahead of Blackpool's Matt Phillips and Brighton's Lewis Dunk.

He said at the ceremony: "I am surprised to be honest. I was really hoping I could do it, I had my fingers crossed.

"This has been a really good season for me. This has topped it off to be honest.

"Crystal Palace is a nice club to be at and I have been there since under-10s so I know how it works and I feel comfortable there."
