Palace want starlet Clyne to stay at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish is hoping to have successful talks in persuading Nathaniel Clyne to stay with the Championship outfit. The talented 20-year-old right-back has played every game for the Eagles so far this campaign and has refused to sign a contract extension.

The England Under-19 international is said to have reservations over the club's future having been part of relegation battles for the last two terms.

"He's got a year to run and we are very, very keen to keep the player at the club," Parish told the Croydon Advertiser.

"We've spoken to his agent and we will see how things progress over the summer.

"He's at an age where we would get a fee for him anyway even if he ran down his current contract.

"I think the way Nathaniel sees it, is that he has had two relegation battles in consecutive years and he wants to be at a team that is challenging at the right end of the table.

"That's good ambition for any youngster and it's now down to us to persuade him that he can do that here.

"We will sit down with him and his agent and try and do that in the next few weeks. We want to try and keep hold of all our best players especially those brought through our academy."

Wolves and Birmingham have previously been linked with Clyne and Parish conceded that, if manager Dougie Freedman wanted to cash in on the Academy graduate, it would be his prerogative.

"At the same time, we have to remember that if the manager thinks he can use the sale of the academy players to build a better team then that's what he has to do," he added.
