Palace to pay Liverpool striker Benteke £130k a week? That's barmy! - West Ham chief

In light of Christian Benteke's reported multi-million move to Crystal Palace, West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan believes that the transfer market has gone crazy.

Palace are believed to be on the verge of a club record £30million swoop for Benteke from Liverpool and the striker is expected to pocket a whopping £130,000 per week at Selhurst Park.

Palace spending so much on a single player has astounded many and West Ham chairman Sullivan has now expressed his exasperation at the amounts of money being thrown about in the transfer market these days.

Sullivan said: "Every year we say the transfer window has gone crazy but it really has gone barmy this year – particularly if you are looking for strikers.

"There are 20 or 30 clubs in Europe, all with money, looking for a striker. And when you have a club like Crystal Palace will to pay £125-130k a week to a guy at Liverpool [Christian Benteke], you do think it has gone barmy.

"Add in the demands of agents and players, this year has just gone crazy."
