Palace striker AJ sent to knee specialist

Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson is visiting a knee specialist.

Johnson has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines and is unavailable because of calf and knee problems.

Palace manager Neil Warnock will decide in the coming weeks whether to offer Johnson a contract extension.

"Andrew has been unlucky," admitted Warnock. "He was just getting back into the squad and was on the bench against Liverpool [last month] but he pulled up in training and hurt his calf. He has got a knee problem as well. He has worked so hard and it is disappointing for him. Unfortunately it's frustrating when you get older, you get these things and you can't shake them off. I can't fault his effort.

"He loves Palace and is desperate to do well for us. If he can get back to fitness, he can still do a job. The big question mark now is, in the space of three weeks, how fit is he going to get?"
