Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman sent out a second string against Crawley and the Eagles did not disappoint with a 2-0 home defeat of the Football League newcomers. Freedman said: "The squad is here is to play football, so they were given an opportunity after a demanding run of league games at Coventry last Tuesday and Hull on Saturday.
"I have to say I thought they did fantastically well in a very difficult match against our local rivals who were really looking for the victory in the way they were playing.
"We've got a lot of youngsters in the team so it was a good result for us. Wilfried is not really a goalscorer yet. He hasn't got the natural instincts of a goalscorer but it is something that we are working on. He's a fantastic provider of goals so we've been working on his finishing."
