Palace's Bannan praises Man Utd's 'daddy' of Scotland team Fletcher

Barry Bannan has labelled Darren Fletcher as the 'daddy' of the Scotland national team.

The Manchester United midfielder is back in the Scotland setup for Wednesday's friendly with Poland in Warsaw after last representing his country in November 2012.

Fletcher has been battling a chronic bowel condition over the past 18 months but is now fit and firing to again lead the Scots, much to the delight of Crystal Palace midfielder Bannan.

"He's like the daddy of the team," the 24-year old told reporters at Glasgow airport.

"You look up to him because of what he has done and just to have him back is a big, big boost for the whole country.

"I was young when I first broke through and he was one I was kind of in awe of and looked up to.

"He made it so easy for me. It's good to have him back. He's the captain and the leader."
