Palace to pull out all the stops for Vaughan stay

Crystal Palace are desperate to keep James Vaughan at Selhurst Park next season, reports this is Croydon Today. Co-chairman Steve Parish however admits the decision will ultimately come down to the player himself.

The on-loan striker from Everton scored his ninth goal for the club last Saturday in the 2-1 win over Barnsley and has become an invaluable member of Dougie Freedman's improving team.

As part of that deal a clause has been agreed with Everton whereby Palace are given first refusal on signing the striker should they meet an undisclosed pre-approved fee.

But he has promised Palace fans that, providing the club stay in the Championship, a move for the 22-year-old will be top of Palace's list of priorities in the summer.

"We've got an offer to purchase him at an agreed price already there and we will look to push that through, but of course the player will have to agree as well," said Parish.

"He's a very good player and he's proved that while he's been with us.

"I've read that Celtic are interested although I've no idea if that's true or not. But if they are then who knows? James might like the idea of going up there and playing in front of 60,000 every week.

"But all I can tell you for certain is that James Vaughan couldn't be more committed to the Crystal Palace cause.

"He's a great lad who has fitted in right from day one. He's the first at the training ground every morning. He gets on with all the lads brilliantly and he is as determined as anyone to keep us in this league.

"That is all we can really ask of him at this moment in time. Whatever happens in the future we'll have to wait and see but I'm just delighted he's ours for the time being."
