Crystal Palace midfielder Joe Ledley admits he could've chosen rugby as a career.

Like most young Welshmen, the Crystal Palace midfielder was ultimately forced to choose between oval and round ball.

"We had to do rugby as a sport and I had trials for Cardiff and got through," he recalled to the Daily Express. "I had to choose between football and rugby and obviously I am 100 per cent sure I made the right decision.

"You never know, I could possibly have played rugby for Wales. I used to play full-back. But it was always football for me.

"I was lucky to be able to play rugby to a pretty decent degree as well, although Gareth Bale would probably have been even better, with his pace."
