The Daily Mail says Palace are expected to make an ambitious loan move for Aston Villa outcast Bent after interest from Newcastle and Fulham died down.
Manager Ian Holloway is looking to bolster his forward line further after signing Marouane Chamakh from Arsenal, the club's seventh signing of the summer.
Palace would pay Bent, thought to be earning £65,000-a-week at Villa, his full wages with the view of a permanent deal if the Selhurst Park club avoid relegation.
