Palace ground plans set to scupper Tottenham move to Olympic Stadium

Crystal Palace have ambitions to move to a new 40,000-seater ground which could have severe repercussions for Tottenham's bid to move to the Olympic stadium. Eagles co-chairman Steve Parish wants to sell Selhurst Park and return the English Championship club back to the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace.

However, Spurs plan to redevelop the NSC as an athletics stadium as part of their proposals to move to Stratford as they do not intend to keep the running track at the Olympic Stadium.

Bidding rivals West Ham, who plan to keep the track, could therefore now have a free run at the stadium.

Ed Warner, chairman of UK Athletics, said: "On the proviso that the Olympics stadium retains its athletics track and any redevelopment of Crystal Palace maintains a community athletics facility on or nearby the park, we would be supportive of the plans of Crystal Palace."

A decision on the final bid for the Olympic stadium is expected at the end of next week.
