Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has branded the use of social mad "sad".
Warnock doesn't have a Twitter account.
"It's sad,'' he told the Telegraph.
"People say to me why don't I go on Twitter. Why would I want thousands of people sending me hate mail every week or wanting to know what time I dropped the dog off at the vet? It does my head in. It started with the phone-ins, on radio, then on television, now Twitter and it has ballooned. You have to live it with it as a manager. You just hope your players don't let you down. There are disciplinary procedures if they do. Most players are responsible. I still shake my head.
"Our IT guy tells me anything newsworthy our players have said or what somebody has said about our players. I was with Rio Ferdinand doing the FA Cup final for BT. Rio loves Twitter. I said: 'What do you get out of it, Rio?' He said: 'It's nice to keep in touch with people.' People have their opinions.
"I don't like people abusing me when they're invisible as with social media. I don't mind somebody confronting me or shouting abuse to my face. I smile normally. I might be hurt but I won't let anybody know. They want you to hurl abuse back or snarl at them so I just laugh at them. Underneath I just think they're sad."
