Palace boss Warnock explains Murray switch to Reading

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has explained allowing Glenn Murray to leave for Reading.

The striker joined Reading on-loan this week.

"Glenn asked me if he could go and get some games," Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser.

"He had a bad injury and he wants to play regularly week in, week out. At the moment, I understand where he's coming from, he's a great servant to the club and has done well over the last few years.

"You just want him to play, and I like Reading. The lad wanted to go so I had to say to him he could but only if I could get somebody in.

"We couldn't really let Glenn go until we'd got the Doyle deal finished - and it was right up until 10.59pm.

"Glenn will score goals in the Championship. Reading are a good club and it's ideal for him. He didn't want to move too far and he came and asked me if I'd help him.

"I think for what he's done for the club, he deserves that. I would have loved to have had him as well as Kevin Doyle but I do understand where he's coming from."
