Former Crystal Palace captain Paddy McCarthy has been named the club's U18 coach.

The Irishman, who made more than 150 appearances for the Eagles over seven seasons, has replaced Ken Gillard, who left to join Arsenal last month.

"It is a fantastic first step for me," he said.

"I am familiar with the club and it is one that I have a great passion for."
