Owen relaxed over limited role at Man Utd

Michael Owen insists he is unconcerned about his role at Manchester United and is not expecting to be involved in every game. The England striker is now approaching full fitness ahead of United's opening game against former club Newcastle on Monday and says he has no qualms about again being used as a squad player by Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It's somewhere I feel comfortable," Owen, who was considered by many to be a surprise signing for United, told the Sunday Times.

"I know what my role is in the squad and I'm cool about that. I don't expect to play every game, but I've got to be ready when I'm needed.

"I'd prefer to play half the games in a season here than all the games somewhere else.

"You want to play with real quality, and that's what you have here. Quality players, a fantastic stadium and unbelievable facilities."

The 30-year-old also praised team-mate Wayne Rooney, saying: "There's one thing that sets Wayne Rooney apart from most other really successful strikers - he is a genuine team player.

"He loves scoring goals, but not to the detriment of the team.

"He wants to do it himself, but he knows the team comes first and that's what I've been impressed with. Because he is there for the team, he is a joy to play with."
