Owen has yet to gain an England recall and although he was handed a starting berth against Everton today he has still only started seven of a possible 20 competitive games and couldn't find the net against his boyhood idols.
However, that has not left Owen regretting joining the Reds, far from it.
"I have played in a team that was struggling and I much prefer life at a winning club, even if that means I don't play every minute of every game," Owen said.
"I am here at a club that is full of quality, training with top players every day and working under a top manager.
"I have had my fair share of starts and minutes on the pitch this season, so I am not about to complain."
In fact, Owen likens it to his short stint at Real Madrid, where he made a positive impact from the bench.
"In Madrid it was a similar story," said the 29-year-old. "I didn't start every game but I ended up with the best goals-to-minutes ratio in the league.
"You can twist stats any way you want, all I am concerned about is scoring as many goals as I can."
