With the England striker's future on Tyneside in doubt, Owen was happy to talk up the qualities of Keegan: "He knows his stuff and he can see a player.
"He can see if something needs tweaking or changing. Tactically, he's very good and has been a fantastic appointment. The confidence wasn't high [when he succeeded Allardyce] but if you could ever ask for a man to pick players up, that man is Kevin Keegan. Everyone is enjoying coming into training every day."
