Over 45,000 Real Madrid fans made it to the Santiago Bernabeu yesterday to welcome new signing James Rodriguez.

The former Monaco midfielder completed his stunning €80 million move to Real yesterday.

Along with the fans, The Colombian ambassador to Spain, Fernando Carrillo, was also in attendance and said: "As a Colombian I am so proud at James's arrival.

"Our number 10 joins the elite of world football through the front door. First the World Cup, and now you're giving us more joy. In Colombia we have a huge affinity with Real Madrid, for both the club's schools and the legacy of Alfredo Di Stéfano."

Real president Florentino Perez also remarked: "He was outstanding at the World Cup in Brazil. He was one of the best players at the tournament. He was the top scorer and scored the best goal.

"James, you've never hidden your passion for our club. I'm sure you remember the first time that you visited the Bernabéu. Now your dream has come true. Your family know what it has taken for you to get here."
