Signing Dani Osvaldo has proven to be a huge financial mistake for Southampton.
The Saints secured the signing of Italian striker Osvaldo back in 2013 for a club record fee of around £15million but the striker never managed to justify the price tag by scoring only three goals, before being suspended for head-butting teammate Jose Fonte at training.
Osvaldo has since spent time on loan at various clubs and upon the completion of his spell at Boca Juniors on Wednesday, the striker's contract has now been terminated by Southampton.
Overall, Osvaldo is reported to have cost Southampton £25m, once his transfer fee, wages and the early termination of his contract were taken into account and it amounts to a whopping £8.3million for every goal the striker scored for the Saints – easily making him the biggest flop in the club's history.
