Orlando City notch 40k for MLS debut

Orlando City SC have announced that they have sold over 40,000 tickets for their first MLS match.

The expansion club host fellow newcomers New York City FC at the Citrus Bowl in downtown Florida on March 8 and are gunning for a sellout crowd of 60,000.

So far the goal of the Florida outfit appears likely as they need less than 20,000 to reach their target with a little over three weeks remaining.

Regarding the '#FillTheBowl' campaign, Orlando City president Phil Rawlins said: "Orlando City fans have responded in overwhelming numbers since last Saturday and the milestones continue to fall as we approach the history-making season opener.

"Three weeks remain and we are within reach of our goal to #FillTheBowl! Orlando and all of Central Florida have embraced Purple Pride.

"We are going to show the nation on March 8th why we are the 'Soccer Capital of the South.'"
