Opare looking to step up after LA Galaxy debut

Kofi Opare feels he has to lift his level of game next time he is called up for LA Galaxy.

The 22-year old Canadian-born University of Michigan product stepped into US international Omar Gonzalez's centre-back slot for the weekend's meeting with Colorado Rapids.

Opare was impressive at times in his MLS debut but could not deny Edson Buddle scoring the only goal of the game in the Rapids' 1-0 win and is aware he has to improve.

"[I] could have been better, a lot better, [there were] mistakes here and there," said Opare.

"[There is] stuff I need to improve on, also my positioning and communication and obviously we didn't get the win today. It would have been a lot better if we did."

He added: "I think the most part is this result kind of humbled us knowing that we still need that much work to be done. [But] there are still spots to fight for."
