USA defender Oguchi Onyewu expects to join Birmingham City this week. The defender, currently contracted to Standard Liege, has been heavily linked with a move to St Andrews in the Belgian press.

Reports have suggested that he is considering an offer from the Blues and has been given a week to respond.

The 27-year-old, who spent time on loan with Newcastle in 2007, has now confirmed that Birmingham are interested in securing his services ahead of the new Premier League season.

He told skysports.com: "I have many offers and I want to play in England so the Birmingham offer is there.

"We will know by the weekend."
