Martin O'Neill has confirmed Aston Villa are ready to hold contract talks with Olof Mellberg, Luke Moore and Thomas Sorensen.

The trio are in the final year of their contracts and O'Neill is keen for them all to pen fresh deals with the Midlands outfit.

"I'm hoping to be able to resolve one or two (contract issues) by the middle of next week," O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail.

"There's Olof, Luke Moore and Thomas Sorensen's position. All the people who have a year left to run on their contracts.

"I hate to put a time limit on these things, but by the end of next week I would hope to have certain things resolved.

"I would like to have those done and I think the players would like to know by transfer-deadline day as well. So I'll make decisions on all of them."
