Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has given fans an update on talks with off contract pair Olof Mellberg and Martin Laursen.

He said: "I don't want to be precise but we are doing everything we can to keep Martin Laursen at this football club."

Olof Mellberg is not due for another round of talks until later in the month.

"I haven't spoken to Olof in recent times but he will come back to me," said O'Neill.

"Things are progressing and I'm happy with the way they're going although obviously I can't guarantee anything."
