O'Neill hails Villa striker Moore as pure "natural"

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says Luke Moore is capable of greatness after his hat-trick yesterday against Toronto FC.

O'Neill said: "Luke has something in his contract where he may already have triggered something after a number of appearances.

"I will be looking at that immediately and I think he'll want to stay.

"Luke knows if he puts the work in, he's got the natural talent and the one you wouldn't want is for that natural talent to go to waste.

"I've seen it thousands of times in my time in the game. I've got loads of experience and I'm quite old.

"I've seen players who think natural talent alone will carry them through, but it just doesn't happen. Sometimes players realise that a bit too late. But he's got the ability - he can conjure a goal when things aren't going well, which is a fantastic attribute to have.

"If you're guaranteed that with every single second touch you'll score, then I don't mind anyone doing nothing at all.

"But that doesn't happen in life - it doesn't happen to Wayne Rooney and it doesn't happen to Ronaldo, but Luke's got a priceless talent and now he's got to work at it.

"He knows if he really works at his game, then he has the ability to be anything.

"I think Luke is starting to realise he has to work hard - he's got really great natural talent which has pushed him into this position in the game.

"Hard work is an essential part of the game - this is something he has to take on.

"I thought he was excellent for us last night - his goals were terrific and his overall play was really excellent."
