Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is determined to add to his squad before the market shuts.
O'Neill promised Sunderland supporters he will have made significant additions by the end of this month.
He said: "We're exploring everything and anything you're thinking, trust me we're trying it. We'll get the players in. We need to be competitive and our squad is definitely not strong enough. It's going to be a tough old season anyway and we don't have the strength in depth, maybe more so than other clubs, but that's my job.
"In an ideal world it would great to get them all in. I have a number of options and I'm trying as best as I can to get the players I need and the targets I was looking at to improve the club. It's not to say there aren't a load of players out there or abroad that couldn't improve us and by the end of the transfer window I hope to do that."
