With Aston Villa soaring up to sixth place and just a single point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, Martin O'Neill has sought once again to underline the importance of goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Despite nervy starts in both games and the predictable barracking of the home fans, Carson has kept clean sheets in each of the two matches he has played since returning from England duty.

Despite his horrific international experience, Carson is showing few ill effects and his attitude brought plenty of praise from his manager.

"I think the whole back four is doing well and Scott has now come through all that," said O'Neill.

"He was obviously booed on Saturday and there were one or two more around at Blackburn. But Scott has come through it all very well and I am very pleased for him."
