Oman could have an official presence in English football with ChampionshipReading.
The Daily Star says Reading will hold advanced takeover talks with potential new Middle East owners who are flying into the country today.
The Omani Football Association backed consortium have flown in to fight off a rival bid from a group of American businessmen.
Current owner Anton Zingarevich has been in talks over selling his 51 per cent share in the Championship club since September.
Chairman Sir John Madejski has also offered up his 49 per cent stake.
An Omani FA official said: "An Omani businessman is interested, but we do not want to reveal the identity of the individual as it may hamper the deal.
"Once the deal is finalised then we will be able to give more details.
"It will be good for Oman football if this deal comes through. It will certainly give a huge lift to the development of the game in this country."
