Omaha mayor Suttle wants MLS consideration

Omaha mayor Jim Suttle believes his city should be considered for a MLS expansion franchise in the future.

Suttle believes the fact that local United Football League team, Omaha Nighthawks, can attract over 20,000 fans to games indicates that a soccer franchise would do very well in the area.

"We're testing the market right now with what's being done with the Omaha Nighthawks," Suttle told the World-Herald. "Look at the success story, all of their games have been sellouts. That's unheard of in (United Football League) history."

However, Omaha would have to wait at least a few years with the expansion of Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers in 2011 then Montreal Impact in 2012 to occur first.

Suttle also said he was unaware if there had even been any talks with MLS in regards to considering Omaha but he insisted that the region would explore any options.
