OLYMPIC FOOTBALL SEMI-FINAL: Mexico end Japan's hopes of double final appearance

Mexico came from behind to inflict a 3-1 defeat on Japan and take their place in the men's Olympic final. When Otsu gave Japan an early lead with a fierce shot they looked in control until Fabian levelled from a corner on the half-hour as their opponents conceded for the first time in the tournament.

Mexico took control and took the lead after some sloppy defensive play from Japan allowed Peralta to score from distance.

Japan pressed for a leveller but were caught out in injury time as Mexico broke quickly and Cortes made it three thus depriving Japan of a finalist in both the women's and men's finals

Venue: Wembley Stadium

Attendance: 82,372

Japan scorers: Otsu 12 Mexico scorers: Fabian 30, Peralta 65, Cortes 90
