The same old story for British fans as Team GB bow out of the competition 5-4 on penalties to South Korea after the game ended 1-1 after extra time. Team GB joined their women counterparts in being knocked out at the quarter final stage after failing with penalties, both in sudden death and normal time.
South Korea deservedly took the lead in the first half as keeper Jack Butland was completely deceived by Ji Dong-won's shot, yet within six minutes Team GB had leveled from the penalty spot.
Jaesuk Oh was adjudged to have handled the ball and Aaron Ramsey, not too convincingly, scores from 12 yards.
Incredibly the host's were then handed the opportunity to go in at the break ahead, completely against the run of play, as Daniel Sturridge was tripped in the penalty area.
This time though Ramsey's spot kick was saved.
A second half and extra time failed to separate the teams, but five brilliant penalties from South Korea was enough with Sturridge missing his opportunity to hand the advantage to the visitor's.
