Recently-appointed DC United coach Ben Olsen has identified what type of players he wants when building his roster for 2011 and beyond.
The 33-year old former DC midfielder, who has been at the helm at RFK Stadium since August when he took over from Curt Onalfo, says that strikers are high on his list of priorities.
"We need production. We didn't score enough goals. We need some clinical, classy finishers," Olsen said.
But he also knows that to make a successful squad, you need balance, and will also target quality defenders when putting together his wishlist.
"We need veteran defensive players. We need leaders in the back. We feel we have a good base, but we have a long way to go."
DC finished dead bottom in 2010 but Olsen feels that with some off-season tinkering, the Washington club can be a threat next season.
"I don't think the playoffs are out of the question next year," he added. "It's something that can be achieved. In this league it's unique in the sense that you can change in a couple of months. I want to make the playoffs, but I want to make the playoffs in the right way."
