Oliver Gill excited about Man Utd call-up

Manchester United's rookie fullback Oliver Gill is delighted with his first senior call-up.

The son of United chief executive David Gill, Ollie is in the squad for the Champions League clash at Wolfsburg.

Gill - a full-back or centre-back - signed a professional contract a year ago, having been in the club's academy since he was 12.

He has made nine appearances in the reserves this season.

He said: "I really want to give football my best shot. I am good enough to have a professional career at some level.

"Ideally that would be with Manchester United but realistically the competition is very strong and few players from the academy make it into one of the world's top club sides."

Ollie reckons most people at Old Trafford do not link him with his powerful dad.

He said: "Nobody takes any notice of my relationship to my dad. I've been in the academy for six years and most people have simply forgotten. It's just not the way Manchester United do things."
