Oldham striker Taylor hopes for Newcastle return

Oldham Athletic signing Dan Taylor has hopes of returning to Newcastle United.

The teenage striker joined the Latics this week.

Taylor - who scored 12 goals for the reserves and youth team last season - told the Evening Chronicle: "Who knows?

"One day I still hope to achieve the dream of playing for Newcastle United.

"Even if I had stayed at Newcastle, I had the likes of Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Shola Ameobi, Leon Best and Sammy Ameobi all ahead of me. Playing for Newcastle is still a dream, but I'm firmly focused on the task in hand with Oldham.

"It's a great club and I can learn a lot from the manager here and his assistant Gerry Taggart. One of my last memories of being at Newcastle was to achieve a boyhood dream of scoring at the Gallowgate End when I scored against Team Northumbria in the reserves, it's a feeling I'd love to have again.

"Newcastle were great with me when I left and Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley were really supportive of me.

"Even when you know you are leaving there is still life after Newcastle and Peter helped me quite a lot behind the scenes, he does a lot of things that people don't see at the club and when a player of his reputation is helping you, that's a special feeling."
