A surgeon assessed the problem but the news was not positive and could now force the 31-year-old to assess his career options.
A statement on the club's official website said: "Unfortunately, the findings were not what Les was looking for. In fact the results were disastrous for the Sydney-born stopper.
"Pogliacomi has been offered extensive correctional surgery to micro fractures and the regeneration of the cartilage, which would incur 12 months rehabilitation.
"Les is at the moment considering his options and talking with his wife Lia about their future."
