Oldham boss Johnson laughs off going for Man Utd legend Scholes

Oldham Athletic boss Lee Johnson has laughed off talk of tempting Manchester United legend Paul Scholes out of retirement.

Johnson reckoned his forthright chairman Simon Corney may have already had a crack at trying to tempt the Middleton maestro into a blue shirt.

"Put it this way, you know Simon!" he told the Manchester Evening News.

"I respect Paul Scholes enough to not ask him but Simon will get in the mix of anything.

"You're talking about a world class player that's retired after a world class career. Why would he want to spoil that adulation by playing for me?

"Listen - the door's open. Even to Maradona. I'm sure I could get him 10 minutes."
