‘Old’ Man Utd returning as Rooney eyes Premier League glory

Wayne Rooney suggests Manchester United ate edging closer to returning to former glories.

Some massive changes have been made at Old Trafford this summer with the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager and signing of one of the world's best strikers in Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Add to that the emergence of young guns Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, plus a few other quality additions, and captain Rooney feels that perhaps the Premier League title is within reach in 2016/17 after they can conquer reigning champions Leicester City in the Community Shield at Wembley next weekend.

“I think the players feel this is more like the old Manchester United. It's not just the new signings, we've got Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford from last season who made such an impact," Daily Mail.

“We're in a very good spot now, we think we can challenge for the Premier League, and we want to put a marker down, in the Community Shield with Leicester.

“I know it's a one-off game, but we want to show we can win a trophy early on — we feel that's an important event for us."
