Plymouth Argyle could make a move to bring their former midfielder Peter Halmosi back from Hull City in the January transfer window. Pilgrims' boss Paul Sturrock has admitted he would be interested in re-signing the Hungary international.
The 30 year old has played only twice for Premier League outfit Hull City this season, with both appearances coming in the Carling Cup.
Sturrock said: "Finance will dictate a lot of what we are looking for.
"Peter is on a large wage at this time and I think he might be wanting to fight for his place (at Hull).
"There are several options we are going to go down the road of.
"But Peter is somebody we know, the crowd love him and he scores goals, so you would never write that off."
Sturrock believes it is important Argyle strengthen their squad in January as they battle to stay in the Championship.
"I do feel we need a visionary kind of midfield player, with a good range of passing, who can open teams up and has a goal threat," said Sturrock.
"We could also do with a very penetrative width player. That definitely would be a benefit to us.
"I'm not saying (Craig) Noone won't do that, or that Judgey (Alan Judge) hasn't done a decent job.
"We just need another option - somebody who goes beyond."
Halmosi, who made 66 appearances for Argyle and scored 13 goals before moving to Hull, comes into that latter category of player.
Sturrock said: "We have a nice strong bunch of players, who are very solid in their approach. I think now we need the icing on the cake to benefit the team. We need that one or two who will give us extra strings to our bow offensively."
